Greetings,

Forty years ago I was preparing to start law school.  A few days before the start of class, I wandered through the lobby of the old law school, across the street from the Park Student Union.  I wanted to make sure I knew where to show up when class started.  Shockingly, there was a list of several books taped to the glass display cabinet in the lobby!  They wanted me to read several books before class even started!

The College of Law has changed since then.  The University tore down the old law school building.  Reading assignments are posted electronically.  Tuition went up.

Your Law College Association of the University of Arizona helps to provide financial support for the College of Law.  We provide scholarships and other financial assistance to our law students.  We ask that you become involved with your fellow alumni and friends of Arizona law and help us to help current and future students get a great legal education at Arizona's First University!

After all, someone helped most of us get through law school.

Over the next two years while I am President of the Law College Association, you can look forward to quarterly happy hours in Phoenix, additional opportunities to engage through the Phoenix Recent Graduate Committee, and a strong University of Arizona presence in downtown Phoenix.  I invite you to be part of the excitement and join me at "Homecoming in Phoenix" on Thursday, October 27th at the University Club

This week we celebrate some incredible achievements by the Arizona Law community including our Vet Clinic students, Professor Robert Glennon, and alumnus Jarod Hautamaki.

Until the footnotes,

Mike

Vet Clinic Students Particpate in Roundtable with Sen. McCain

On Thursday July 28th Senator John McCain hosted a Roundtable discussion with about 25 Southern Arizona area veterans.

Matt Randle ('14) wrote,

"We were very fortunate to have 4 Alumni and 3 current students from the Veterans' Advocacy Law Clinic (VALC) in attendance. The event was a smashing success, and we had several really great conversations with Sen. McCain about continuing efforts to create a national veterans court, our discharge upgrade work, and the greater areas of concern for veterans in our community."

"As you might expect the VALC alumni and current students stole the show and wowed the Senator with our knowledge and passion about the issues he has been so dedicated towards his whole career."

From L to R - John Leiteinburger (3L), Vikram Jaswal (3L),
Matt Randle ('14), Sen. McCain, Andy Meshel ('13), Judge Pollard,
Jordan Huffman (3L), and Michelle Behan ('13).

Professor Glennon Recipient of Teaching Award

Professor Robert Glennon, Regents' Professor and Morris K. Udall Professor of Law & Public Policy, was recently awarded the Clyde Martz Teaching Award from the Rocky Mountain Mineral Law Foundation.

The award committee noted:

The Clyde O. Martz Teaching Award was established in 1993, by the Trustees of the Foundation, to honor excellence in the teaching of natural resources law. Excellence in teaching performance shall be the primary criterion for the award and consideration shall be given to the fostering of a broad understanding of the law, mentoring of students, and innovative style together with any other teaching qualities as may be determined to be relevant by the Selection Committee and stated that Robert Glennon possesses all of the qualities and accomplishments that the award is intended to honor and recognize.

Throughout the years, we have had several students receive the highly selective RMMLF Scholarships and engage in the scholarly workshops provided by the Foundation.

Robert is one of the leading water law scholars in the country. And his students and colleagues might fairly say, "what do you mean 'one of'...?" We have previously celebrated Robert and some of his work here.
