Last week at the State Bar of Arizona Convention I had the pleasure of seeing lots of familiar faces, watching as many alumni and friends were honored, and reconnecting with many leaders in our profession. Some of those moments are captured below.
Thank you for the great conversations and the opportunity to answer your questions. It is clear that many of you are paying attention to what is happening at Arizona Law. The terrific questions I received during the convention make me wonder if others of you have questions you would like me to answer. If you want to ask me about current developments at the College of Law or other subjects, please email me. I would love the chance to have a dialogue with you.
This week, in recognition that June is Immigration Heritage Month, we also bring you an update from the college's Bacon Immigration Law and Policy Program.
We are nearing the conclusion of our fiscal-year-end giving campaign on June 30. To all of our generous donors -- thank you! By supporting us, you help to ensure success for the next generation of Arizona Law students. Your contributions also support the important professional training and service being carried out in the immigration clinic and our other great programs, clinics, and practice groups.
If you have not already given this year, please consider doing so today -- "In Favor of Students."

| Arizona Law Connects with Alumni at the Bar Convention |
We enjoyed seeing many alumni and non-alumni friends at the Arizona Law reception last Wednesday at Wild Horse Pass. There were a countless number of Arizona Law alumni were honored at the convention. Here are a few we witnessed:
- Brian J. Pollock ('98) - SBA Member of the Year Award
- Alex H. Lane ('99) - SBA President's Award
- Hon. Barbara LaWall ('76) - Arizona Women Lawyers Association Sarah Herring Sorin Award
- Denice Shepherd ('83) - Bar Foundation William E. Morris Award
- Hon. Stephen McNamee ('69) - Bar Foundation Mark Santana LRE Award
This year's bar convention also marks the transition of leadership for the Law College Association. Thank you to Stephen Golden ('02) for two years of fantastic leadership. Welcome Mike King ('79), our new LCA president. We look forward to sharing more about Mike King in a future newsletter.

On Friday, we hosted a Wildcat table outside of the Bar Convention luncheon. We welcomed alumni from all classes and presented members of the Class of 1966 with certificates to commemorate their 50 years of service to the legal profession as part of the Arizona Bar.
We were not able to catch up with all of our 50-year alumni, but we did manage to catch Judge Teilborg and Judges Stephen and Toby Gerst (all three from the Class of 1966). For those members of the Class of 1966 that we missed, we hope you will join us at Homecoming 2016 for your 50th reunion. We will mail your certificates along with further details about your upcoming reunion.

| The Immigration Law Clinic
|
The Bacon Immigration Law & Policy Program serves as an umbrella for the law school's immigration-related offerings, including its Immigration Law and Workers' Rights Clinics, doctrinal courses, internships, and opportunities to undertake supervised research on immigration issues. Today, we share some of the Immigration Law Clinic's (ILC) accomplishments during the 2015-2016 academic year. For more news and accomplishments of the Bacon Program,

The ILC this year conducted in-depth intakes of 14 immigrants from five countries. These individuals not only received detailed information and advice regarding their options, but three were accepted as ILC clients, six were accepted by non-profit law offices or pro bono attorneys, and four received substantial follow-up services.
In addition, ILC students' individual representation resulted in the following victories:
In the fall, students Mario Gonzalez and Junjuan ("Juana") Song won asylum for a young man from Somalia who fled his country after refusing forcible recruitment efforts by Al Shabaab. Mario and Juana's tireless work included traveling regularly to Eloy Detention Center, where our client was detained; tracking down family members, a lay witness, and expert witnesses; and assembling country-conditions evidence to corroborate the claim. They represented the client skillfully in a three-hour hearing, after which the government agreed to waive appeal. Our client was released from detention after eleven months and has begun a new life in Phoenix, Arizona.

In March, student Gabriela ("Gabi") Corrales represented an undocumented mother of three U.S. citizens at an interview regarding her application for permanent residence pursuant to the Violence Against Women Act. Gabi and Raul Iturralde built on work done by Heidi Nielson ('15) and Gabriela Salcido Monreal ('13), who had documented the client's abuse by her U.S. citizen husband. Above, a relieved client, flanked by Gabi and Professor Lynn Marcus, stands outside the local immigration office after being informed that her application was granted.
