new online alumni directory is here!
If you graduated between 2005
and 2015, you should have received an email inviting you
to join the directory. If you are a member of
those classes and you did not receive an email, please
let us know.
Class years prior to 2005 will receive their invitations
over the next few weeks.
Once
you receive your email, please take a moment to click
the link, join the directory, and fill out your contact
information. The more information contained in the
directory, the more valuable it will be to all College
of Law alumni.
In
the footnotes below, we have provided some screen shots
and helpful hints to make registration a little
easier. If you have any questions or need
assistance, please contact the alumni office at (520)

colleagues and a member of the administrative team --
Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, Catherine Gage
O'Grady.

Cathy
Gage O'Grady Joins Arizona Law
|
|
 This
summer, Catherine
Gage O'Grady joined
us as a Professor of Law and as our new Associate Dean
of Academic Affairs. She teaches Civil Procedure
and Professional Responsibility.
Cathy's
research focuses on behavioral legal ethics, an area of
study that draws on empirical research in cognitive and
social psychology to explore the many subtle and often
unconscious influences on ethical decision making.
Her
current work, titled Behavioral Legal Ethics,
Decision Making, and the New Attorney's Unique
Perspective, analyzes the psychology of ethical
decision making for the new attorney.
Before
coming to Tucson, Cathy was a Professor of Law at
Arizona State University's Sandra Day O'Connor College
of Law, where she also served for three years as
Associate Dean of Clinical Affairs and the Profession.
She has appeared as a legal commentator on the
public television station KAET in Phoenix, speaking
about the U.S. Supreme Court.
Prior to
joining the ASU faculty in 1990, she clerked for Judge
William Canby on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth
Circuit, and she practiced law with the Phoenix firm of
Meyer, Hendricks, Victor, Osborn & Maledon.

Award
Established to Honor Professor Jean Braucher
|
The American Bankruptcy
Institute has established an award in honor of the
late Professor Jean Braucher. James
Patrick Shea ('82) shares this announcement:
An
author of more than 50 articles, books and book
chapters, Professor Braucher was known among academics
as a pioneer thinker in the "law in action" tradition.
She was also active in legal reform efforts,
serving as a long-standing member in the American Law
Institute, the National Conference of Commissioners of
Uniform Laws, and most recently as a member of the
Administrative Claims Advisory Committee for the ABI
Commission to Study the Reform of Chapter 11. She
also served as an active member on the Advisory Board
for the Consumer Bankruptcy Fee Study. An ABI
member since 1999, Professor Braucher was inducted into
the American College of Bankruptcy in 2013. She
will be remembered not just for her many contributions
to consumer bankruptcy law, but also for her generosity,
warmth, humor and kindness.
Each
year, the recipient of the Jean Braucher Award will be
the full-time academic member of ABI or U.S. bankruptcy
judge who best embodies Professor Braucher's personal
and professional qualities and whose work serves to
advance knowledge, thinking and improvements in the
consumer bankruptcy system.
The award, which
also includes a cash prize of $7,500, will be presented
annually at ABI's Winter Leadership Conference, starting
with this year's event on Dec. 3-5 at the Arizona
Biltmore Resort and Spa in Phoenix.

Centennial
Snapshot -- Dean Lyons
|
 John D. Lyons, a 1932
alumnus of the College of Law, became its third dean in
1947. As a student, Lyons was president of the
student body.
As its dean, Lyons
guided the college through the post- World War II era of
enrollments swollen by returning veterans and secured
the construction and occupation of a much needed new law
building. In 1966, Dean Lyons returned to
full-time teaching.
Dean Charles Ares published
a
tribute to Dean Lyons in the college's Law
Record in 1981 (v.2
n.2).

Memoriam: Thomas O'Hare
('69)
The Arizona Law
community mourns
Thomas O'Hare ('69), who passed away in Albuquerque, New
Mexico, on July 1, 2015.

Best
wishes to Jeremy Welland ('11) and his
wife, Kehler, on their recent marriage in Park City,
Utah.
Bob
Smith ('94), Assistant City Prosecutor for the
City of Phoenix, was recognized on June 18, 2015, in
Tucson at the Arizona Prosecuting Attorney's Advisory
Council Annual Conference as one of the 2015 APAAC
Prosecutors of the Year for Arizona.
Matt
Randle ('14), a Veterans Advocacy Law
Clinic Post-Graduate Fellow, has announced the creation
of his own firm
in Tucson practicing in criminal, family, and juvenile
law.
Tom
Henze ('73) and Janey Henze Cook
('03) have started a new
firm in Phoenix:

your milestone as an Arizona Law alum!

the classes of 1965 (50 year),
1970 (45 year), and
1975 (40 year), keep an eye out for a
formal invitation to your reunion luncheon and contact

questions or to update your contact information or that
of a classmate.

Get
ready, get set, go to the Alumni
Directory! Here are some tips:
TIP
1 Once you have set your password by
clicking on the embedded link in your welcome email, log
in to the Directory to update or add your information.
Click on Change Profile underneath the
Getting Started menu in the upper right-hand
corner of the home page (see the green
circle).
TIP
2 Once you have arrived at your
profile, click Edit to change your information
and update your privacy settings. Note that, while
you can see all of your information, by default, the
only items that are visible to others are
Degree, Graduation Date,
City, State, and Zip
Code.
TIP
3 Privacy settings appear after
each
field. The options available are:
- Private
(only you can
view the information);
- Network
Only (allows only your Directory connections to
see the information); and
- System Users
Only and Public (both of which make the
information visible to all users who are logged in to
the system).
Note that, despite the name,
information set to Public, will
never be accessible
to anyone who is not logged in to the
Directory.
TIP 4
To search for friends or classmates,
simply click on Directory under the
People tab atop any page.
We
are two weeks away from orientation for the new class
and transfer students. But the law school world is
again buzzing.
Many
current students are involved in interviewing programs
in Los Angeles (August 10), Las Vegas (August 11),
Denver (August 12), Phoenix (August 14), and Tucson
(August 17-28) (email the Career Development
Office for more information).
For
returning students -- we look forward to seeing you back
on campus!
