Jessup International Law Moot
Court Competition |
|
Team members James Florentine, Parker
Bunch, Jackie Kafka,
Troy Anderson, and David Lundmark
(l-r). |
In a busy competition season, our students continue
to make us proud in legal-skills tournaments across the
country.
Congratulations to our Jessup International Law
Moot Court Team for winning the Third Best Memorial at
the Pacific Regional Competition in Portland, Oregon,
where 20 schools participated.
The team, including 3L Jackie Kafka and 2Ls Troy
Anderson, Parker Bunch, James Florentine, and David
Lundmark, has worked since September conducting in-depth
research and preparing written and oral pleadings to
present before a mock International Court of
Justice.
This year's complicated and
real-world issues included mass surveillance, the right
to privacy, treaty interpretation, preventive detention,
and cyber attacks. Kudos to the team, whose depth of
understanding of these issues was demonstrated by their
winning memorial, and many thanks to Professor of
Practice and moot court advisor Julie Ferdon, who
coached the team to
success.

Las Vegas is one of our many homes-away-from-home.
And the Pac-12 Tournament is one of our several events
that feels like a homecoming each year. The MGM Grand
Arena and the hotel halls are awash in red. We build our days in Las Vegas
around the tournament, seeing alumni and friends, and
helping our students make meaningful connections with
our many Arizona Law alums there.
But as we share the news from the
Jessup moot court competition, as the Phoenix
Business Journal recognizes our amazing alumni, and
as we recognize our alumni and friends for their
profound contributions to the profession over the years,
we take note of something even more fundamental: the UA
is at home and in the lead
everywhere.
Warmly,
Dean
& Ralph W. Bilby Professor of Law
Shaping
the next century of legal
education
