Nike EVP and Alumna Ann Miller Announced as Keynote Speaker for 2025 Convocation Ceremony

Ann Miller (’99), Executive Vice President of Global Sports Marketing at NIKE, Inc., will deliver the keynote address at the University of Arizona James E. Rogers College of Law 2025 convocation ceremony, Saturday, May 17, 2025


Ann leads Nike’s athlete, league and federation portfolio, as well as end-to-end integration of athletes across innovation, product and storytelling. 


She joined Nike in 2007 and previously served as Chief Legal Officer, Corporate Secretary and Chief Ethics & Compliance Officer. 


Ann brings more than 25 years of legal, compliance and corporate governance experience. Prior to joining Nike, she worked at the law firm Sullivan & Cromwell.


She received her Juris Doctor from the University of Arizona where she finished second in her class, was a member of the Order of the Coif and served on the Law Review. She also played basketball for Smith College and was named NCAA Division III Basketball Player of the Year.

Legal Writing Excels in Latest U.S. News Rankings

University of Arizona Law earned another top-10 distinction in the legal writing specialty in the newly released U.S. News & World Report Best Graduate Schools rankings, tied for No. 8 overall and tied for No. 4 among public universities.


The Legal Writing Program at Arizona Law stands out for its innovative curriculum, small class sizes and deep integration of real-world lawyering skills. The program channels creativity and a commitment to client-centered advocacy, preparing students to become persuasive communicators, strategic thinkers and ethical advocates. With a focus on clear, effective legal communication, the program equips graduates to lead the profession in addressing local, national and global challenges.


This national recognition reflects the strength of Arizona Law’s legal writing faculty and the program’s role as a foundational pillar of the law school’s broader mission: advancing justice through education, service and innovation.

Case Closed: This Year’s Grand Closing Argument Finalists

Congratulations to the finalists of the Richard Grand Closing Argument Competition!


The Richard Grand Closing Argument Competition is an internal competition established in 1995 by the late Richard Grand (’58), a Tucson-area plaintiffs’ attorney. He conceived the idea of a competition which would emphasize jury arguments focusing on damages. Five finalists are selected from a preliminary round and then compete in a final round often judged by alumni who have previously won the competition. This year’s finalists were:


1st place: Brianna Perez

2nd place: Caroline Hilgert 

3rd place: Ella Spoor

4th place: Mattie King 

5th place: Victoria Howell 

Calling Future Lawyers! High School Summer Law Camp Registration Now Open

Do you know a high school student interested in a career in law? 


This summer, the College of Law will invite talented high school students to explore the theory and practice of law. Over the three-day summer program (May 2729), students will learn about the impact of law and justice from professors and attorneys, participate in a mock trial and (optionally) visit the Pima County Superior Court to observe trials and meet with judges.


The Summer Law Camp is free. Enrollment is limited to 30 high school students. Students must be currently enrolled in either 9th, 10th or 11th grade. To apply, visit the law camp webpage here.
