Farhang & Medcoff Contributes $50,000 in Support of ‘A New Day in Court’ Initiative

Thanks to Tucson-based law firm Farhang & Medcoff, PLLC, which has donated $50,000 to our $6 million “A New Day in Court” initiative to significantly reconstruct student courtrooms and expand the advocacy program’s offerings.

When construction is complete, students will argue their case work from the Farhang & Medcoff Speaker’s Podium — an upgraded space in the college’s new Kevin R. Boyle Courtroom.

“High quality legal education begets high quality legal advocates. By creating courtrooms with the latest technology, the University of Arizona will be able to attract the brightest law students and transform those students into skilled advocates for the betterment of our profession and community,” explained Timothy Medcoff (’98), Partner and, alongside attorney Ali Farhang, Co-Founder of Farhang & Medcoff, PLLC. “I am indebted to the University of Arizona’s College of Law. My education and the connections that I made in law school changed the trajectory of my life and enabled me to build the career and community I enjoy today.”

Founded in 2008, Farhang & Medcoff, PLLC (“F&M”) is a leading, minority-owned and operated, LGBTQ+ and military-friendly Arizona law firm with locations in both Tucson and Phoenix. The firm handles a broad range of matters including business law, labor and employment, estates and trusts, and more. F&M attorneys pride themselves on their exceptional ethics, bold legal strategies, and unbroken commitment to their clients and communities.

A number of University of Arizona Law alumni are part of the firm including Sara Derrick (’02), Neal Eckel (’87), Cyndy Valdez (’93), Michael Harnden (’10), Alexandra Tracy-Ramirez (’10) and Alan Leichty (’21).

AROUND THE COLLEGE

Meet TechLaw Fellow CJ Pommier

University of Arizona Law third-year, TechLaw Fellow and first-generation law student CJ Pommier has held many titles before her time as a law student: PhD student, chemist, bench scientist, product developer and project manager to name a few.

“I came into law having never thought of it as a possible career because there are no lawyers in my family,” said Pommier.

But it was during her time as a project manager that Pommier began to contemplate a career change. She talked about it with one of her mentors, who told her about the TechLaw Program at University of Arizona Law. Wanting to leverage her training as a chemist and her experience in product development and research to bring unique insights into a future law practice, she decided to apply.

CJ didn’t just get into the program, she became a TechLaw Fellow. The TechLaw Fellowship program is a one-of-a-kind full scholarship program dedicated to students with science and technology backgrounds.

CJ hopes that after graduation she can put her law and product development background to use by helping local innovators.

“I think if we can build that legal community and become a more well known as a resource, there is no need for those folks who want to launch their innovations out of the university to go to Phoenix or New York to find the legal support that they need,” said CJ.

Farhang & Medcoff demonstrates its commitment to the Tucson community in so many ways. We were delighted when our alumnus Tim Medcoff wanted to engage more deeply with our College, and focused on the courtroom and advocacy project. The firm illustrates the strength of the Tucson legal market, and along with other Tucson-based firms makes sure a wide range of area clients can be well-served, and University of Arizona graduates interested in staying in Tucson have great opportunities.

The firm’s gift moves us closer to breaking ground for A New Day In Court – and we are delighted that Farhang & Medcoff will be a visible presence for students and visitors for years to come.

Warmly,
