Greetings,
This week marks a sad milestone in the life of the University of Arizona. A year ago, on October 5, 2022, Dr. Thomas Meixner, department head and professor of hydrology and atmospheric sciences, was killed on campus.
Along with the rest of the university, we are observing a pause in communications from this evening through the end of the day on Friday. This pause includes our regular "Wildcat Wednesday: Letter of the Law."
Events are being held on campus to honor Dr. Meixner's legacy, including a service and vigil Thursday.
Shortly before his passing, Dr. Meixner shared a quote from poet and playwright Seamus Heaney on his social media, and it seems an appropriate tribute:
Hope is not optimism, which expects things to turn out well, but something rooted in the conviction that there is good worth working for.
